The Wellfleet Oyster Festival opens on Saturday, October 14 and continues through Sunday, October 15, 2017. Here is a rundown of the events for the weekend. The hours on both days are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The events will go on rain or shine.

Saturday, October 14

Welcome and Announcements from the Main Stage. SPAT Booth: Located on the corner of Main Street and Town Hall Lot
Find OysterFest merchandise and support the educational mission of Wellfleet SPAT, Shellfish Promotion and Tasting, Inc., which includes a college scholarship program, community grants awards and initiatives to support the shellfishing and aquaculture industries.

SPAT Information Booth and Volunteer Check-in: Located within the Admissions Tent at Main and Bank Streets. Stop by for information, volunteer check-in, registration forms, directions, email list sign up and more.

11:00 am – 4:00 pm: Family Fun Area

Wellfleet Preservation Hall Garden: The Family Fun Area features performances, educational displays, craft activities, moon bounces, face-painting, and family-friendly food vendors. Click here for more information.

10:15 am – 11:15 am: Music: Crabgrass: Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot. Cape Cod’s premier Bluegrass band.  CrabGrass’ sound is a mix of old and new; the shows always incomparably entertaining.Crabgrass Bbluegrass

10:30 am – 11:00 am: Presentation: TBD, Wellfleet Public Library, 55 Main Street, More information is coming soon!

11:00 am – 12:30 pm: Clam I Am Cooking Demonstration, Lower Level, Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, “Clam I Am,” an expression of the rich and varied culinary delights offered by Wellfleet’s second most popular shellfish, the clam. More details!

11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Music: Chantal, Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot, Elegant Talent and emerging artist from Cape Cod. Mix a little Aretha, a splash of Donna Summer and a dash of Billie Holiday and you have something quite special.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Presentation: TBD, Wellfleet Public Library, 55 Main Street, More information is coming.

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Shucking Contest Preliminaries, Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot, Emceed by local hero and reporter, Eric Williams, host of CapeCast, the daily webcast of the Cape Cod Times. Register to compete at the Admissions booth near Town Hall by 12:00 noon. For more information and to register in advance click here. Prizes awarded: 1st Place-$1,000 2nd Place-$500 3rd Place-$250

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm: Presentation and Panel: Future of Aquaculture, Wellfleet Public Library, 55 Main Street

1:15 pm: Shellfish Grant Tours, Meet at Mayo Beach, 35 Kendrick Avenue, Join Assistant Wellfleet Shellfish Constable Johnny “Clam” Mankevetch for a tour of two multigenerational family oyster farms.

1:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Taste of the Merrior & Terroir, Lower Level, Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, SPAT presents its signature tasting event: “Taste of the Merroir & Terrior,” an exploration of the subtle variations in flavor of oysters grown in different parts of Wellfleet Bay.

3:00 pm & 4:00 pm: OysterFest Spelling Bee, Wellfleet Public Library, Test your spelling skills at the annual OysterFest Spelling Bee, with children’s and adult rounds, prizes, and fun! Beekeeper Ed Miller returns with a new list of words this year. Registration form for both Littlenecks (12 and under) and Quahogs (13 and up) can be downloaded here and are also available at the Wellfleet Public Library. Please register by 2:30 pm. Littlenecks round begins at 3 pm and the Quahogs round follows immediately at 4 pm.

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Music: The Rip-It-Ups and Friends, Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot, The Rip-It-Ups are an 8-piece OysterFest original playing roots rock/original tunes. Good friends Shred Hawthorne, Steve Magliano and Mac Hay will join them to create some jump up, rock out, dancing feet fun!

Sunday, October 15

9:00 am: OysterFest 5K Adult Road Race, Same course as last year, because it was so great! Course begins in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot on Rt. 6 and rune along Cove Road to Pilgrim Spring Road, then out to Indian Neck Beach, and back. Join the 16th annual Shuck n’ Run. Prizes are awarded to first, second and third place, First Wellfleet Resident and First Race Walker male and female! T-shirts limited to first 100 entrants aged 10 and older. 10:15 am – 11:15 am: Music: Where’s Sarah?, Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot, Playing originals and rockabilly classics with a splash of soul, the Oh Boys will host an excellent line up of guest performers, while we all wonder where Sarah is, right now!  Their set will have a vibrant energy that’s downright contagious, always including a few surprises.

10:30 am – 11:00 am: Presentation: TBD, Wellfleet Public Library, 55 Main Street, More information is coming.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Music: Funktapuss, Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot, Funktapuss is an eight-piece groove factory that has toured the United States, churning out funk, soul, and R&B classics by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Tower of Power, Lettuce, Chaka Khan, James Brown, and many more, plus originals.

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Culinary Demonstration with Chef Barbara Lynch, >Lower Level, Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, Of No. 9 Park, B&G Oysters & Stir fame, Chef Barbara Lynch will bring her game to Wellfleet.

12:30 pm – 1:00 pm: Presentation: TBD, Wellfleet Public Library, 55 Main Street, More information is coming.

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Shucking Contest Finals, >Main Stage behind Town Hall , Cheer on your favorite contestant in the final round of Cape Cod’s famous Oyster Shucking Competition. Prizes will be awarded: 1st Place-$1,000, 2nd Place-$500, 3rd Place -$250. Interested in competing?

1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, Film Screening: TBD, Wellfleet Public Library, 55 Main Street, More information is coming.

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Music: The Catbirds, >Main Stage, Town Hall Parking Lot, Most of these guys converged in 2010 to fight the war on boring and to get the peoples moving again (which they did by using the ancient techniques of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and crazy loud stupid stuff).
