This event features a symphony by Shostakovich and a play by Andre Previn and Tom Stoppard. It premieres on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center. The Saturday performance is at 7:30 pm and the Sunday performance is at 3:30 pm.
The event is part of the ArtSpring Festival. The Freedom of Expression theme was inspired by festival initiators, the Cotuit Center for the Arts and Cape Symphony, who partnered to present well-known artworks that were created in response to political repression. Their stunning collaboration of Andre Previn/Tom Stoppard’s theatrical/musical montage Every Good Boy Deserves Favor and the Shostakovich Triumphant Symphony will be performed during ArtSpring at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center on May 6 – 7. Please visit capesymphony.org for more information.
In a rare theatrical event, we’ll pair one of the most dramatic symphonies ever written, Symphony No. 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich, with an extraordinary play for actors and orchestra by Andre Previn and Tom Stoppard, “Every Good Boy Deserves Favor.” Both works are a response to political oppression and celebrate freedom of thought. For the first time ever, the Cape Symphony is partnering with the Cotuit Center for the Arts to present this powerful music and play in one moving tribute to the enduring nature of the human spirit.
To purchase tickets, see the Cape Symphony site.
