Reading celebrates summer with a Friends and Family Day that is organized and sponsored by the Reading Lions Club. This community event features live entertainment, a kids fun run, vendor booths, local food vendors, games, a petting zoo and more.

Other activities include bounce houses, remote control race cars, frisbee throwing, a dunk tank, non-profit displays, giveaways, a rope bridge and arts and crafts. The entertainment in 2015 included Katie Curtis, the Real School of Music, East Coast Dance Center and Elite Freestyle Karate.

The hours of the celebration are from 10:00 in the morning with the fun run to about 9:30 pm when the fireworks are finished. The vendor booths, entertainment, and activities run from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The day comes to a grand finale with a fireworks display at Birch Meadow Field at 9:00 pm.
