Homage to Julie Andrew’s Antiques on the Square in Easton, Pennsylvania

The following is the main content from one of my first websites, a small site built totally in basics HTML for a local antique cooperative that I was involved with. The store was Antiques on the Square and it was owned and managed by a marvelous lady named Julie Andrews. Julie was a friend of ours that died a few years back and every time we head north on River Road, have a martini, or see a sign that says Easton, We instantly think of Julie. For us, she has never died and she always seems near. She is our personal Casper the friendly ghost.

Julie was in the antique business for decades. She had been in antique co-ops in the Poconos and all over Eastern Pennsylvania. We first met her at her shop on Northhampton Street called Granny’s Cupboard. We went there for years before we moved in and rented space from her. After some time, we ended up moving up the street with her to the main square, where she changed the name of the shop to Antiques on the Square. We had a great time there and we made a friend among friends, named Julie Andrews. Here’s to you, Julie.

Julie’s Emporium Antiques on the Square was a group of over 20 antique dealers housed in a 5,000-square-foot antique mall in the center of Easton Pennsylvania. The store closed a few years back and Julie passed away some time ago. This page is our tribute to Julie and the good times we had together. She is deeply missed. These were some of the dealers who had booths at the shop. (Click on the name to see the antique dealers specialty):

Digger’s Delight
Digger’s Delight has a space located at Julie’s directly in the middle of the store, where you’ll find Primitive Furniture and Country Collectibles, cast iron architecturals, prints, paintings and pottery. Digger is always bringing in new items several times a week and his space is always overflowing.
The Emporium Collection
The Emporium Collection features antique and vintage memorabilia from Easton and the surrounding area including: Milk Bottles, Post Cards and Ephemera. Currently we have a large group of Hotel Easton Post Cards for sale.
We are always interesting in buying Easton PA Memorabilia, Advertising, and Ephemera. Give us a call at (610) 252 6766 and ask for Julie. We buy individual pieces as well as entire collections. Whether you have a Post Card, a Bottle, a Victorian Trade Card or a Seitz Beer Sign or Tray we want to talk to you.
EJB Antiques
EJB Antiques specializes in Advertising and Ephemera. She has an electrified spinning case in the store chocked full of marvelous little collectibles from Antique and Vintage Tins, Tobacco Collectibles, Small Rubber and Metal Toys and Cars, Silver Spoons, and more.

Granny’s Cupboard Antiques is the original name of our store, and the owner is Julie Andrews. Many years ago Julie started with her first store in town when she took over Dylan Spencer Antiques.
Julie’s has an eclectic and extensive selection of antique and vintage furniture on hand, with our inventory changing often. This furniture ranges in style from Vintage Modern to Victorian Formal to Antique Primitive Farm pieces.
Whether you are looking for a dining room table, a Vintage Upholstered Chair, or a Country Cupboard, you should come and visit us. If we don’t have it, we will be glad to tell you about where you might find just what you are looking for.
Howard’s Furniture Care Products
Jeanette’s Antiques at Julie’s sells Howard’s Products. These magic formulas work wonders on fine wood furniture with watermarks, rings, scratches and discoloration. The Restor-A-Finish Scratch Hider works to restore the finish by evening out the varnish blemishes on Oak, Mahogany, and Cherry wood furniture. Applied with a 4-0 steel wool pad, Scratch Hider has transformed many a table, chair, and buffet for us, and it will work for you too.
The Feed-N-Wax, with Orange Oil and Beeswax, is marvelous for giving moisture and color back to unvarnished wood that has gotten dry and dull.
Julie and Co. Antiques
Julie and Co. Antiques is a group of consignors that sell their items throughout our 5,000 square foot store. The quality, rarity and variety of these items are some of the best in our store. Some of our consignors are World Travelers and we never quite know what they will show up with next.

Test Cars of Summer fix

Cars of Summer is a huge car show held every Fourth of July weekend in Worcester, Massachusetts. The setting for the show is the 480 acre Green Hill Park that features ponds, rolling hills, a golf course, and a zoo. See the 2016 winner’s list below.

Click to see our Virtual Tour: Over 70 Photos

The current show management team took over in 2013. That team’s attention to detail, friendliness, and organization impressed us from the first time we contacted them to the moment we arrived at the park. There’s a virtual army of volunteers that make this show work.

The car show goes to great lengths to put on a good show for the entire family. Cars of Summer is not just a car show. Other activities this year included bounce houses, food trucks, a petting zoo, an auction, concerts, costumed characters, a flea market, knockerball (inflatable balls that you crawl inside of to play a soccer like game), paintball, a kid’s zone, monster truck rides and a Saturday night cruise through downtown Worcester.

Some of our favorite cars this year were the yellow 1954 Ford Truck, Mike’s green and white 47 Ford Truck, the showstopping, modern and odd design of the creamy butter yellow 1954 Kaiser Darrin, and the 1940’s Jupiter Fire Department Ambulance. We also loved the sleek black McLaren 570S, the red convertible GTO, the purple streetrod, and the 1929 Ford Model A Woody Station Wagon with a pull-out canopy and camping rig.

We only had a few hours to check out the show this year on one day. We’re looking forward to going back next year and spending a lot more time there. This show is an outstanding event in a great location with lots of friendly and knowledgeable people.

We have endeavored to correctly identify all of our cars and trucks for this article and for the photo galleries. If we have made a mistake, please write us and let us know. We want to correctly tag all of these masterpieces of car design and automotive history. You can help us and your fellow readers by helping us get things right.

New Jersey Comes to Go2.Guide.

Today is a big day for us. We started our journey on the web in 2004 with a small site about our hometown and another one for an antique mall that we were involved in. Along the way, we created a lifestyle site for the state of New Jersey that we sold to investors in 2014. We parted ways in 2016 and that website now has a whole new focus and reason for being. Because of that, we now have a ton of stories that are not being used and we want to give them a new home. Their new home is here on Go2.Guide in the brand new New Jersey section.

There will be a lot more here in the coming days.

Northeast Massachusetts Fireworks Guide

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Our Northeast Massachusetts fireworks guide is new today, June 12, 2018. Our guide covers displays in these Northeast counties: Essex, Middlesex, and Suffolk. We will keep updating the listings all the way through the holiday weekend.

We list every event, big or small that we find. This feature is just part of our comprehensive coverage of the holiday. We also feature concerts, patriotic parades, arts festivals, boat parades, small town decorating contests, barbecues, carnivals, picnics and more on our 4th of July in Massachusetts page.

We’ve been working on this list for the past several weeks and we think that we’ve got Northeast Massachusetts Fireworks pretty much nailed down for this year. You might not agree. You might know of some small town fireworks display that we missed. Please write us with your corrections complaints and additions to our listings. We want to hear from you!

We list the rain date for most of the events, the location whether it be at the local school or the town park and we provide a link to the town site or recreation department site so that you can always get more information.

One note of caution, we verify our information and we double-check everything. We do make mistakes and sometimes the event date, time or location changes at the last-minute. We implore you to verify the details of the event, either on the town’s website or their Facebook page before you make a long trip or make big plans. We want to help you and your family have a great holiday!

Thanksgiving Tips from a Retired Chef

My partner, Val Gerischer worked as a chef in restaurants in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for over thirty years. Most of those years, he was in the kitchen on Thanksgiving day and offers these quick tips for dining out on Thanksgiving Day.

  • Reserve your table for early in the day so that you get the freshest turkey and avoid the crowds that tend to pack in around mid to late afternoon.
  • If you are a real fan of turkey and dressing and hate crowds, just reserve your table for the day after Thanksgiving. You’ll pay a lot less for the same dinner, avoid the noise and fuss of a busy restaurant.
  • Save a little of your holiday dinner so that you can have one of those yummy day-after-Thanksgiving sandwiches with turkey, cranberry sauce, and mayonnaise.
  • Finally, if you are cooking Thanksgiving dinner at home, please don’t get too creative or too fussy with your menu. This is one of those holidays that people want classic American turkey, dressing and cranberry sauce like Grandma used to make. Stick with the basics on this day and go foodie-gourmand crazy next week.

Find Massachusetts Fireworks Notes

Most importantly, our fireworks guides are written to help you find the best information in the least amount of time. To make these features work, we have to do a ton of research, organize them logically into geographical and interest-based categories, and most importantly, publish them in a timely matter. Sometimes, unfortunately, we don’t get the information until the very last minute. We’ve known good sized towns to wait until the day before the actual event to publish the information on the location, time, and pertinent details of the fireworks show.

Finally, if all of this isn’t working for you, and you don’t find the Massachusetts fireworks display that you’re looking for, don’t panic. You can always just drop us a line. Tell us what the problem is and how we can make things easier and better for you. We’re here to help and best of all; we don’t bite.
