Amherst will celebrate independence day with a community celebration and a fireworks display on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. The event will be held on the fields behind McGuirk Alumni Stadium at the University of Massachusetts. The fireworks display is free, but there is a $5.00 parking fee and a shuttle provided by PVTA.
The celebration features a children’s carnival, games, hot air balloon rides, a blacksmith demonstration, bounce houses, a roaming railroad, climbing walls, face painting, local food vendors, a clown, the Amherst Community Band, a pie eating contest and more.
The highlight of the night is the fireworks display that starts at 9:30 pm.
The event is organized by the Amherst Department of Leisure Services and Supplemental Education. The event is sponsored by local businesses.

Amherst Leisure Services presents the 4th of July Celebration, at UMass Amherst! Please join us on the Fairgrounds behind McGuirk Stadium as we celebrate Independence Day with food, music, and live entertainment. Compete in contests such as the Atkins Farms Pie eating contest and Potato Sack Race. Play family-friendly games such as Giant Twister and red white and blue Body Marbling. Enjoy popular carnival snacks and refreshments, Hot Air Balloon rides, and a kid’s carnival for all ages. Live music will fill the fairgrounds in the evening. Local bands such as Bomba de Aqui and Beast Mode will perform sets and then a performance from the Amherst Community Band will segue into the fireworks show. Come for the day’s entertaining festivities and stay for the night’s awe-inspiring fireworks.
